FES opens APM anew with bigger batch

The APM Batch 5 is composed of young progressives in civil society organizations, government agencies, academic, and private institutions. In the first cluster (out of five clusters in a year), keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Sylvia Claudio of the University of the Philippines delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the values that guide progressive leadership as well as the relevance of young people’s commitment to political and development work.

The Academy was conceptualized and founded in 2011, recognizing the need to deepen the bench for skilled young leaders who can bridge the leadership gap — in progressive social movements, political organizations, government service, and the academe — by creating a venue for structured capacity building, shared learning, and collaborations. The APM is a 5-cluster (each thematic cluster runs for 3 days)  leadership-training course for second-line leaders who are committed to the values of freedom, equality, social justice and solidarity, and for those who intend to pursue social and political development work and political management positions.

As an educational-political foundation, the APM is FES’ contribution to local partners and the general public interested in progressive leadership development.

Each year, FES, along with the Academy coordinators and panel of selectors conduct an evaluation to fine-tune and improve the APM curriculum and course modules. So far, Batch 5 has completed Clusters 1 and 2 tackling Personal Development Skills and Political Communication Skills. Clusters 3-5 which will center on political theories, political economy, and project management will be rolled out in the coming months. ###
